Aluminum Butt Weld Pipe Fittings
Butt-weld aluminum fittings are joined directly to the pipe by welding, producing a continuous, leak-resistant piping system with no mechanical joint interruption. The most common application is welded industrial piping where long-term integrity, low pressure drop and clean flow paths are required.

5.1 Aluminum Butt Weld Aluminum Elbow
Aluminum elbows change the direction of a piping system while maintaining a continuous flow path. Long-radius (LR, R=1.5D) elbows are standard for process piping and provide lower flow resistance; short-radius (SR, R=1D) elbows are used where installation space is limited.
Available types: 45° elbow, 90° elbow, 180° return bend, long-radius elbow, short-radius elbow, reducing elbow, custom-angle elbow
Size range: NPS 1/2" – 24" (larger sizes available on request)
Wall thickness: SCH 5S, 10S, 40S, 80S, or as specified
Standard: ASME B16.9 (dimensional)
5.2 Aluminum Tee
An aluminum tee creates a 90° branch from a main pipe. Equal tees have identical run and branch sizes; reducing tees connect a larger run to a smaller branch. Tees are commonly used in distribution piping, manifold assemblies, and instrument air lines.
Available types: Equal tee, reducing tee, butt-weld tee, threaded tee, socket-weld tee, custom tee
Size range: NPS 1/2" – 24"
Standard: ASME B16.9
5.3 Aluminum Reducer
Aluminum reducers connect pipes of different nominal sizes. Concentric reducers have a symmetrical cone and are used in vertical pipe runs or where flow symmetry is acceptable. Eccentric reducers have an offset flat side and are used in horizontal suction lines (for example, at pump inlets) to prevent air pockets.
Available types: Concentric reducer, eccentric reducer, butt-weld reducer, threaded reducer
Size range: NPS 3/4" × 1/2" up to 24" × 20"
Standard: ASME B16.9
5.4 Aluminum Cross Fittings
Aluminum cross fittings provide four pipe connection points in a single fitting. They are used where a main pipe run requires two branch connections, such as manifold headers, fire-sprinkler risers, and instrument panels.
Available types: Equal cross, reducing cross, butt-weld cross, threaded cross
Size range: NPS 1/2" – 12"
Standard: ASME B16.9
5.5 Aluminum Pipe Caps
Aluminum pipe caps close the end of a pipe or tube. They prevent the ingress of dust, moisture, and debris and can be used as permanent pressure-bearing end closures in welded systems.
Available types: Butt-weld cap, threaded cap, socket-weld cap, machined cap, custom cap
Size range: NPS 1/2" – 24"
Standard: ASME B16.9
Aluminum Forged & Threaded Fittings
Forged aluminum fittings are produced from bar stock by hot or cold forging, then machined. They are designed for socket-weld and threaded pipe connections and are commonly used in small-bore piping, instrumentation, compressed air, and chemical service where disassembly may be required.
6.1 Aluminum Coupling
An aluminum coupling connects two sections of pipe or tube of the same nominal size. Full couplings have female sockets on both ends; half couplings have one female socket and are typically used for branch connections on headers.
Available types: Full coupling, half coupling, reducing coupling, threaded coupling, socket-weld coupling
Size range: NPS 1/8" – 4"
Thread standards: NPT, BSP, BSPT, Metric (as specified)
Standard: ASME B16.11 (dimensional & pressure class reference)
6.2 Aluminum Bushing
An aluminum bushing reduces the size of an existing threaded connection. Hex head bushings allow tightening with a standard wrench; face bushings are flush-fitting and used where space is restricted.
Available types: Hex bushing, face bushing, reducing bushing, threaded bushing, male-to-female bushing
Size range: NPS 1/4" – 4"
Thread standards: NPT, BSP, Metric
Standard: ASME B16.11
6.3 Aluminum Union
An aluminum union provides a detachable, reusable pipe connection that can be separated without cutting the pipe. Unions are commonly used at equipment connections (pumps, valves, instruments) where periodic maintenance is expected.
Available types: Threaded union, socket-weld union, male-female union, custom union
Size range: NPS 1/8" – 3"
Standard: ASME B16.11

Aluminum Branch Outlet Fittings (Olets)
Branch outlet fittings (olets) are high-strength fittings welded directly to a main pipe, header, or elbow to create a branch connection. Compared with cutting a tee into the main pipe, an olet provides a smoother flow path, reduces reinforcement requirements, and lowers fabrication cost. The branch end of an olet can be butt-welded, socket-welded, or threaded depending on the application.
Branch Outlet Comparison
| Type | Branch-End Connection | Typical Function | Common Size Range (Branch) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weldolet | Butt Weld | Welded branch connection on a run pipe or header — preferred for high-pressure and high-integrity service | 1/2" – 6" |
| Sockolet | Socket Weld | Socket-weld branch connection—used for small-bore instrument and process branches | 1/2" – 4" |
| Threadolet | Threaded (NPT / BSP / Metric) | Threaded branch for instruments, gauges, valves and small-bore connections without on-site welding | 1/2" – 2" |
| Elbolet | Butt Weld / Threaded | Branch connection welded directly onto an elbow—eliminates the need to cut a tee into a tight-radius bend | 1/2" – 4" |
| Nipolet | Threaded (extended outlet) | Compact extended outlet for pressure gauges, instruments and small equipment connections in confined spaces | 1/2" – 2" |
For project specifications and detail drawings, the exact product designation, run pipe size, branch size, wall thickness, and applicable standard should be confirmed before ordering. See the full aluminum branch outlet fittings page for individual product specifications.

Aluminum Flanges
Aluminum flanges provide a bolted, detachable connection between pipes, valves, pumps, and other equipment. They are specified when the system must be opened periodically for cleaning, inspection, or component replacement.
Available Aluminum Flange Types
- Aluminum Weld Neck (WN) flange — Butt-weld to the pipe; preferred for high-pressure, high-temperature, or cyclic service
- Aluminum Slip-On (SO) flange — Pipe slides into the flange bore and is fillet-welded; lower-cost option for low-pressure service

When to Choose Aluminum Fittings
Weight reduction is critical — marine vessels, aerospace ground equipment, mobile platforms, vehicle fuel lines
Service environment is corrosive — coastal installations, salt-laden atmospheres, mild chemical exposure
Non-magnetic material is required — instrumentation, MRI rooms, sensitive electronic equipment
Easy on-site fabrication and machining — field modifications and custom bracketry
Architectural and aesthetic applications — exposed downspouts, building facades, decorative piping
Applications of Aluminum Fittings
Aluminum fittings are used wherever low weight, corrosion resistance and ease of installation matter. Common application areas include:
Marine and Offshore
Alloys 5083 and 5086 are the standard choice for marine service piping. They offer excellent resistance to seawater and salt-laden atmospheres, and they are readily welded with conventional TIG / MIG procedures. Typical uses include bilge lines, ballast systems, fire-water mains, fuel-transfer piping and deck-drainage systems on commercial vessels, offshore platforms and naval craft.
Chemical and Process Industry
Aluminum is compatible with many organic chemicals, ammonium nitrate, hydrogen peroxide and food-grade products. Aluminum fittings are used in chemical storage, transfer lines and process equipment where stainless steel is over-specified and carbon steel would corrode.
Food and Beverage Processing
Alloys 3003, 5052 and 6061 are commonly used in food and beverage facilities for non-product-contact utility lines, CIP (clean-in-place) return lines, compressed-air distribution and drainage. The smooth, non-porous surface of aluminum supports hygienic operation when properly finished.
HVAC and Refrigeration
Aluminum tubing and fittings are widely used in selected HVAC and refrigeration systems, particularly in air-cooled condensers, refrigerant lines and air-handling units. Connection method, pressure rating and refrigerant compatibility must be confirmed for the specific system.
Compressed Air and Pneumatic Systems
Lightweight aluminum piping is well suited to compressed-air distribution in workshops, manufacturing lines and pneumatic automation systems. Elbows, tees, couplings and reducers are used to build ring mains and branch lines.
Instrumentation and Analytical Equipment
Small-bore bushings, unions, couplings and branch outlet fittings (threadolets and nipolets) are used for pressure gauges, sample lines, analytical instruments and control panels. The non-magnetic property of aluminum is a key advantage in sensitive measurement environments.
Automotive and Transport Equipment
Aluminum fittings are used in vehicle fuel lines, hydraulic systems, battery cooling circuits and pneumatic braking systems. Weight reduction directly improves fuel efficiency and payload capacity.
Architectural and Drainage Systems
Aluminum elbows, caps and couplings are widely used in architectural downspout systems, roof drainage, building-service piping and decorative exposed piping. The natural mill finish or anodized surface of aluminum is suitable for visible architectural applications.
Industrial Equipment and Machinery
Aluminum fittings are used around pumps, valves, manifolds, heat exchangers, compressor skids and process skids where the service environment is compatible with aluminum and weight reduction is a benefit.
