Henan Gnee New Material Co., Ltd. is one of the most reliable manufacturers and suppliers of aluminum coupling in China. With abundant experience, we warmly welcome you to wholesale high quality aluminum coupling in stock here from our factory. Good service and reasonable price are available.
GNEE supplies aluminum couplings for connecting two pipes, tubes or threaded components in piping systems. Depending on the connection design, a coupling can provide a permanent welded connection or a detachable threaded connection.
Available types include full couplings, half couplings, reducing couplings, threaded couplings and socket-weld couplings. Aluminum alloys can be selected according to the required connection method, dimensions and service environment.
For applicable forged aluminum and aluminum-alloy socket-welding and threaded fittings, ASME B16.52 provides requirements for ratings, dimensions, tolerances, marking and materials. Where forged construction is specified, ASTM B247 can be used for the aluminum forging material. For NPT threaded couplings, ASME B1.20.1 covers the thread dimensions and gauging requirements.
GNEE can supply standard and custom aluminum couplings according to alloy, size, connection type, thread standard and applicable specification.

The applicable standard depends on the coupling type, manufacturing method and connection. The standard should be confirmed before production.

2. Full Aluminum Coupling
A full coupling connects two pipes or tubes through two connection ends of the same nominal size.
This type is commonly selected when:
Both connected components have the same nominal size
A compact connection is required
The connection may need to be removed for maintenance (threaded version)
Threaded or socket-weld installation is preferred
Threaded full couplings are particularly common in small-bore piping and utility systems.
3. Half Aluminum Coupling
A half coupling connects a pipe, tube or fitting to an equipment wall, header, vessel or other component. One end has a threaded or socket-weld connection, and the other end is plain or weldable.
Typical configurations include:
Threaded × weldable end
Socket-weld × weldable end
Threaded × plain end
Custom end preparation
Half couplings are often used as connection points for gauges, valves, instruments and branch piping.
The exact end preparation should be confirmed from the customer's drawing because the term "half coupling" can describe different connection arrangements depending on the project specification.
4. Reducing Aluminum Coupling
A reducing coupling connects two components with different nominal sizes.
For example, a 2" × 1" aluminum reducing coupling can connect a larger threaded pipe to a smaller threaded component.
Reducing couplings are useful when:
A pipeline changes size locally
An instrument connection is smaller than the main line
A valve has a different connection size
A compact size transition is required
For larger diameter changes, an aluminum reducer is normally more appropriate than a coupling.

5. Threaded Aluminum Coupling
Threaded couplings provide a detachable connection without welding.
Common thread systems include:
NPT
BSPT
BSPP
Metric threads where specified
For NPT products, ASME B1.20.1 covers the thread form, dimensions, allowances and gauging requirements.
Important Thread Note
NPT, BSP and metric threads are different systems and are not interchangeable.
Before production, the buyer should specify:
Thread standard (NPT, BSPT, BSPP or other)
Nominal size
Thread direction (usually right-hand)
Thread tolerance where applicable
For export orders, specifying the exact thread standard is especially important because a nominal 1" connection does not automatically mean the same thread geometry in different systems.

6. Socket-Weld Aluminum Coupling
A socket-weld coupling has an internal socket. The pipe is inserted into the socket and welded around the joint.
Compared with a butt-weld connection, the pipe does not require a butt-weld bevel at the coupling end.
Socket-weld couplings are mainly considered for smaller-bore piping, instrumentation and utility connections.
Applicable forged aluminum socket-weld fittings may reference ASME B16.52. The standard applies to forged fittings. Couplings machined from bar stock may not fall under B16.52. The manufacturing method should be confirmed with the supplier.
7. Aluminum Coupling Dimensions
For forged threaded couplings, ASME B16.52-2024 provides reference dimensions. The table below shows Schedule 160 threaded coupling dimensions from B16.52 Table 1.2.1-5.

Notes:
W is the full coupling end-to-end length. A half coupling has a length of W/2.
D is the outside diameter of the coupling body.
G is the minimum end wall thickness at the threaded end.
B is the minimum length of internal thread. The useful thread length shall not be less than L2 required by ASME B1.20.1.
These are Schedule 160 reference dimensions from ASME B16.52-2024. Dimensions for other designated schedules (Schedule 40, 80) are provided in separate tables of the standard.
Socket-Weld Coupling Dimensions
Socket-weld coupling dimensions are provided in ASME B16.52-2024 Table 1.2.1-2 (Socket-Welding Fittings). The available sizes and dimensions depend on the designated schedule (Schedule 40, 80 or 160). Schedule 160 socket-weld fittings are limited to NPS 1/8–2.
For socket-weld coupling dimensions, please confirm with GNEE according to your required size and schedule.
Specifying Coupling Sizes
Couplings can be specified using NPS, DN or actual tube/pipe dimensions.
For threaded products, provide the nominal pipe size together with the thread standard.
For tube systems, provide the actual outside diameter, wall thickness and thread specification if applicable. This avoids confusion between pipe size and actual outside diameter.

About Pipe Schedule
ASME B16.52 uses a Designated Schedule system (Schedule 40, 80 or 160) for pressure ratings and dimensions. The pressure rating of a B16.52 fitting is based on the equivalent pipe wall thickness, not a standalone pressure class. Schedule 40, 80 or 160 should not be treated as the standalone pressure rating of an aluminum coupling. The actual pressure capability depends on alloy, temper, wall thickness, fitting geometry, size, operating temperature, connection method, applicable design code and service conditions.

16. Frequently Asked Questions
What is an aluminum coupling?
An aluminum coupling is a pipe fitting used to connect two compatible pipes, tubes or threaded components.
What is the difference between a full coupling and a half coupling?
A full coupling has two connection ends and is designed to connect two pipe ends. A half coupling has one connection end and is generally used to connect a pipe or equipment connection to another component.
Can aluminum couplings be threaded?
Yes. Aluminum couplings can be manufactured with internal threads, including NPT and BSP configurations where the alloy and design are suitable.
What standard is used for threaded aluminum couplings?
Applicable forged aluminum threaded fittings can be manufactured to ASME B16.52. For NPT threads, ASME B1.20.1 provides the thread dimensions and gauging requirements.
What material standard applies to forged aluminum couplings?
Where forged construction is specified, ASTM B247 can specify the aluminum forging material. ASME B16.52 also recognizes ASTM B361 as an alternative material standard for aluminum. B247 is a material specification, not a dimensional fitting standard.
Are aluminum couplings suitable for seawater?
Certain marine aluminum alloys such as 5083 and 5086 have good corrosion resistance, but suitability depends on the complete piping system, service conditions, welding procedure and galvanic environment.
Can custom aluminum couplings be manufactured?
Yes. Custom couplings can be evaluated according to drawings, samples, dimensions, thread specifications and application requirements.
Are Schedule 40, 80 and 160 the same as pressure classes?
No. ASME B16.52 uses a Designated Schedule system based on equivalent pipe wall thickness. The pressure rating of a coupling depends on the alloy, temper, wall thickness, geometry, temperature and applicable design code. Schedule 40, 80 or 160 should not be treated as standalone pressure ratings.
Can aluminum couplings be anodized?
Anodizing is generally suitable for machined or threaded couplings. For socket-weld couplings that will be welded, confirm the anodizing requirement together with the welding process.
