Stability is also an important factor in the selection of industrial aluminium foil. Aluminium tends to form a dense oxide film in air, which not only prevents further oxidation of the aluminium, but also provides a layer of protection for the aluminium in the electrolyte. Copper, on the other hand, is quite stable in dry air. This stability ensures that the copper-aluminium foil can work stably for a long time inside the lithium battery.

Interestingly, however, the positive and negative potentials of lithium batteries determine this particular mix of industrial aluminium foil for the positive electrode and copper foil for the negative electrode. Positive electrode potential is high, if you use copper foil here, copper foil is easily oxidised. The oxidation potential of aluminium is higher, and the oxide film on its surface has a good protective effect on the internal aluminium. Therefore, it is more appropriate to use aluminium foil at the positive electrode.
