Aluminum 2017 is a typical aluminum-copper-magnesium alloy that excels among duraluminum alloys, with a carefully designed composition and excellent overall performance. Globally, this alloy is widely produced and used, and is the most heavily used variety of duralumin.
The distinguishing feature of 2017 aluminum is its high strength and heat resistance, making it suitable for use in working environments up to 150°C. It is worth noting that at high temperatures, such as above 125°C, its strength even exceeds that of alloy 7075. The forming properties are quite good, whether in the hot state, annealed or newly quenched, and the effects of strengthening by heat treatment are remarkable, but the control of the heat treatment process is very strict.

Although the corrosion resistance of 2017 aluminum is relatively weak, its corrosion resistance can be effectively enhanced by surface pure aluminum cladding. During the welding process, cracks are easily produced due to its characteristics. However, this problem can be solved by using a special welding process, which can also be used for riveting. Overall, 2017 aluminum is widely used in the manufacture of aircraft structures, rivets, truck wheels, propeller elements, and various other structural parts.
