What Is 7075 Aluminum?
7075 aluminum alloy is a high-strength aerospace-grade aluminum commonly used in applications where maximum mechanical strength is critical and extremely high corrosion resistance is not a primary requirement.
Aluminum alloys are generally known for their strong resistance to corrosion, and their mechanical strength increases at subzero temperatures, making them suitable for low-temperature applications. However, their strength tends to decrease when exposed to very high temperatures. Among them, 7075 aluminum in the T6 forging condition offers exceptional strength and is recognized as one of the strongest commonly used aluminum alloys. In fact, Aluminum Alloy 7075 provides the highest strength among standard screw machine alloys.
The T73 and T7351 tempers of 7075 aluminum deliver excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking, which makes this alloy a reliable alternative to 2024, 2014, and 2017 aluminum alloys in many critical applications. The T6 and T651 tempers offer fair machinability. Due to its outstanding strength characteristics, alloy 7075 is widely used in the aerospace and defense industries.
Common designations and trade names for this alloy include UNS A97075, ISO AlZn5.5MgCu, AA7075-T6, Al7075-T6, AA7075-T73, and Al7075-T73.

Material Characteristics
7075 aluminum is alloyed primarily with zinc and delivers strength levels comparable to steel while maintaining a significantly lower density. It offers good fatigue resistance and moderate machinability, although its corrosion resistance is lower than that of many other aluminum alloys.
Thanks to its combination of high strength, low density, favorable thermal properties, and excellent polishability, 7075 aluminum is extensively used in mold and tooling manufacturing. The typical properties provided for this alloy represent average values based on common production sizes and manufacturing methods and are intended for comparison between alloys and tempers only. These values are not guaranteed and should not be used as design data.
