In 2017, the global bauxite CR10 was 50.67%. Rio Tinto is the world's largest bauxite company, accounting for 13.37% of global bauxite production. Alcoa, Southern 32, Australian Alumina Company and Chinalco Ranked second to fifth, the output proportions are 8.81%, 5.17%, 5.17% and 4.26% respectively. Although Chalco ranks fifth in output, its available price is much higher than that of other bauxite supply giants. China's aluminum industry is still highly dependent on international imports.

China's basic bauxite reserves rank seventh in the world, accounting for about 3.29% of the global share. The resources are relatively abundant, but the quality of the bauxite is low and the mining cost is high. The bauxite is mainly distributed in Guangxi (287 million tons) and Henan (101 million tons). ), Guizhou (09 million tons), and Shanxi (089 million tons). The resource reserves of these four provinces account for about 90% of the country's total. Domestic bauxite deposits are mainly molten salt diaspore deposits, most of which have a low silicon-aluminum ratio.

The size of the deposits is mainly medium and small. The mineral scale effect is low and mining is difficult. Domestic bauxite supply is in distress, environmental protection rectification, mine rectification and other related policies have been introduced to limit output, and domestic mineral product levels continue to decline, with a serious shortage of high-grade bauxite. In 2021, China's local bauxite output will drop 7% year-on-year , domestic bauxite is highly dependent on foreign countries (in 2021, 55% of domestic bauxite depends on imports).
