6083 is an aluminum alloy of the Al-Mg-Si system, which is a heat-treatable, strengthenable alloy.
This aluminum alloy is characterized by good formability, weldability, and good machinability. In addition to aluminum as the matrix, its main components include a certain percentage of magnesium (Mg) and silicon (Si), as well as other trace elements such as iron (Fe), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), chromium (Cr), zinc (Zn) and titanium (Ti).

Typical chemical composition ranges for 6083 aluminum alloy are roughly as follows:

- Si (silicon): 0.4%~0.8%

- Fe (iron): 0.70%

- Cu (copper): 0.15% ~ 0.4%

- Mn (manganese): 0.15 percent

- Mg (magnesium): 0.8% ~ 1.2%

- Cr (Chromium): 0.04%~0.35

- Zn (Zinc): 0.25%

- Ti (titanium): 0.15 percent

- Al (aluminum): remainder (i.e., in addition to the listed elements, aluminum makes up the major portion of the remainder)

Due to its good all-round properties, 6083 aluminum alloy is widely used in the construction industry, as well as in other areas where medium strength and good workability are required, such as in the manufacture of mechanical structural parts, frames, tubes, profiles, and in industrial applications that require corrosion resistance and a certain level of strength. In addition, it maintains good machinability in the annealed condition and its mechanical properties can be further improved by T6 heat treatment.
