China's alumina production is concentrated. As of 2021, Shandong (27.48 million tons; 35%), Shanxi (19.6 million tons; 25%), Guangxi (11.33 million tons; 15%), Henan (10.3 million tons; 13%), Guizhou (509; 7%) accounts for about 95% of the country's total alumina production. Shandong, as the largest province in electrolytic aluminum production in China, relies on its port advantages to build alumina plants and basically uses imported ores. Shanxi, Henan, Guangxi, Backed by rich bauxite resources, Guizhou mainly uses domestic ores for production, and the bauxite reserves in the four provinces account for 90% of the country's total. Alumina production has maintained steady growth overall, with significant increases in production in Guangxi and Chongqing and significant decreases in Yunnan. Yunnan had abundant water and an early flood season in the first half of the year.
In the first half of the year, the power generation above designated size was 171.86 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 17.3%, and the hydropower generation increased by 31.4% year-on-year. As high-energy-consuming projects in Yunnan continue to be put into operation, the power load pressure increases. From June to September, the rainy season rainfall in Yunnan is insufficient. The water level of Yunnan hydropower stations is lower than the historical average for the same period. From November to April next year, it enters the dry season. Subsequently, Yunnan's aluminum smelting industry is affected by hydropower. The output of power rationing and production reduction has reached 1.3 million tons, and there may be continued production reduction actions in the future.
