Common Tempers of 5052 Aluminum Plate

The 5052 aluminum plate, as a widely used alloy product, has become a representative material of the aluminum-magnesium alloy series due to its stable mechanical properties and excellent rust and corrosion resistance.

Common Tempers of 5052 Aluminum Plate

Internationally, 5052 aluminum plate is also known as AlMg2.5, indicating its magnesium alloy content is around 2.5% (ranging from 2.2% to 2.6%). It features a low density (2.68), high strength, and excellent processability, making it an ideal choice for bending, stamping, stretching, and other processing methods. The temper classification of 5052 aluminum plate is as follows, with various hardness levels and notable differences in processability:

H32 Temper: This is the most commonly used temper, allowing for 90-degree bending. It is well-suited for sheet metal parts, chassis cabinets, lighting manufacturing, and other industries.

O Temper: The softest temper with the lowest strength but high elongation, making it ideal for stretching processes.

The 5052 aluminum plate produced and sold by GNEE maintains high flatness, with the alloy content complying with national standards. The surface finish is excellent, and a protective film can be applied on one or both sides to prevent scratches. We maintain spot stock of 1.0 mm–5.0 mm thickness plates in the standard size of 1250*2500mm year-round. For inquiries, please contact us for more information.

In the shipbuilding industry, 5052 aluminum sheets have become the go-to material due to their excellent overall performance. As an Al-Mg alloy, 5052 aluminum combines superior corrosion resistance, high specific strength, and modulus, along with excellent welding capabilities and both hot and cold forming characteristics, making it ideal for the harsh marine environment.

5052-O Aluminum
After complete annealing, 5052-O aluminum exhibits low strength but outstanding formability and plasticity. In shipbuilding, aluminum in this temper is used for parts requiring complex shapes. For instance, interior decorative panels on ships can be easily bent, stretched, and processed with 5052-O aluminum, meeting aesthetic and personalized design needs. Its hardness is around 46HB, making it easy to process and reducing equipment wear.

5052-H32 Aluminum
5052-H32 aluminum, which undergoes heat treatment and cold processing, strikes a balance between moderate strength and excellent formability. With good yield strength, tensile strength, and elongation, 5052-H32 is widely used in the construction of ship structures. Its hardness is around 60HB, offering both structural integrity and ease of processing, ensuring precision in frame and structure manufacturing.

5052-H34 Aluminum
5052-H34 offers a balanced combination of high strength and good plasticity. It is ideal for ship parts that require both high tensile strength and superior corrosion resistance. For example, the deck of a ship, which must withstand external forces and exposure to seawater, benefits from 5052-H34's high strength and good plasticity. The hardness is approximately 68HB, making it perfect for use in various deck plate designs. This combination of strength and workability provides reliable material performance for ship decks.

Other Tempers
Apart from the common states mentioned, 5052 aluminum also comes in H112 (age-hardened) and H116 (heat-treated) tempers. H112 is used when enhanced material strength through aging hardening is required for parts with relatively simple shapes. On the other hand, H116 is suited for parts that require further processing after heat treatment, ideal for ship components with specific material property requirements.
