1. Planar cell

The planar cell is the most commonly used type of aluminum electrolytic cell. Its main structure is rectangular or square, with the discharge electrode at the bottom and the aluminum liquid surface at the top. It is characterized by simple structure, easy manufacturing and convenient maintenance, but because the distance between the electrode and the aluminum liquid is large, it is easy to cause electrode heat dissipation problems.

This type of cell has a wide range of applications and is suitable for all aspects of aluminum electrolytic smelting, including conventional electrolytic smelting, semiconductor-grade high-purity aluminum preparation, etc. The cell body material can be titanium plate, carbon plate, stainless steel plate, etc. according to different requirements.

2. Suspended cell

Compared with the planar cell, the bottom electrode of the suspended cell does not directly rest on the bottom of the cell, but is suspended above the surface of the aluminum liquid to form an electric field area. The characteristics of the suspended cell are that the bottom of the cell is flat, there is no welding in the cell, the electrode has good heat dissipation performance, and it can adapt to larger current density and high electrochemical efficiency.

The application field of the suspended cell is relatively narrow, because it is difficult to manufacture and has high cost. It is generally only suitable for the preparation of high chemical purity aluminum, ultra-pure aluminum, etc.

3. Track type tank

The track type tank is a relatively new type of aluminum electrolytic cell. Its main feature is to place the electrode on the track and control the movement of the electrode through the drive system so that the electrode and the aluminum liquid always maintain a certain distance.

The track type tank not only has the characteristics of good heat dissipation performance and high electrolysis efficiency, but also can increase the utilization rate of the tank width and improve the production efficiency of aluminum smelting. Especially in the field of electrolytic smelting of high aluminum alloys, the track type tank has achieved good application results.

In general, different types of aluminum electrolytic cells have great differences in structure, characteristics, and application. The type of tank body should be selected according to different production needs.
