Hot Forming:
Aluminum Alloy 2017 products should be hot worked at 1875°F and 2250°F. After 1925, they should be solution annealed °F minimally and quenched quickly in air or water.

Cold Forming:
Most of the common stainless steel forming methods can be used to cold-form aluminum alloy 2017. aluminum alloy 2017 has higher yield strength and lower ductility than austenitic steels, so fabrication may find that higher forming forces, increased bending radii, and increased allowance for springback are necessary. Deep drawing and forming, stretch forming, and other similar processes are more difficult to perform on aluminum alloy 2017 than on austenitic stainless steel. When forming requires more than 10% cold distortion, solution annealing and quenching treatment is recommended.
It should be solution annealed and quenched hot or cold forming after heat treating Aluminum Alloy 2017 products. Solution annealing should be at a minimum of 1925° F. Annealing must be followed immediately by a rapid air or water quench. For maximum corrosion resistance, the heat treated product should be pickled and rinsed.
