1: Brief Introduction Of 5083 aluminum
5083 aluminium alloy is an aluminium alloy with magnesium and traces of manganese and chromium. It is highly resistant to attack by seawater and industrial chemicals.
Alloy 5083 retains exceptional strength after welding. It has the highest strength of the non-heat treatable alloys, but is not recommended for use in temperatures in excess of 65°C.
Annealing:
Aluminium / Aluminum 5083 alloy can be annealed at 343°C (650°F) and then cooled in air.
Cold Working:
Conventional methods work best for cold working Aluminium / Aluminum 5083 alloy.
Welding:
Aluminium / Aluminum 5083 alloy can be welded by conventional methods and the filter rod used is this process is of the same alloy.
Forging:
Aluminium / Aluminum 5083 alloy can be forged in the temperature range of 454 to 399°C (850 to 750°F).
Forming:
Aluminium / Aluminum 5083 alloy has good forming characteristics when either cold or hot worked.
Machinability:
Conventional methods are used for the machining process of Aluminium / Aluminum 5083 alloy.
Heat Treatment:
Aluminium / Aluminum 5083 alloy is a non-heat treatable alloy.
Hot Working:
Aluminium / Aluminum 5083 alloy is hot formed at 204°C (400°F) or higher to 371°C (700°F) when severe deformation is needed.
Hardening:
Aluminium / Aluminum 5083 alloy is hardened only by cold working.
Applications:
Aluminium / Aluminum 5083 alloy is used in missile components, welded pressure vessels, auto aircraft cryogenics, TV towers, drilling rigs, transportation equipment and marine parts.

The aluminum industry has created a system using a four-digit numerical designation to identify wrought aluminum alloys. The first digit indicates the major alloying element. The second digit indicates whether there was a modification in the basic alloy. The third and fourth digit indicates the specific alloy. The following represent the various groups:
| 1XXX | Aluminum 99% or greater |
| 2XXX | Copper - major alloying element |
| 3XXX | Manganese - major alloying element |
| 5XXX | Magnesium - major alloying element |
| 6XXX | Magnesium and silicon - major alloying elements |
| 7XXX | Zinc -major alloying element |
