What is 6063 T6 aluminum tube
6063 is a low-alloy Al-Mg-Si grade: little copper, moderate magnesium and silicon, so it extrudes and draws cleanly and anodizes to an even film. The T6 temper means solution heat treatment then artificial ageing, which lifts strength above the as-extruded T5 level while keeping good corrosion resistance. That mix - load capacity plus a finish-ready surface - makes 6063 T6 the default for architectural and decorative tube. It is heat-treatable; H-tempers do not apply.

Processing and fabrication of 6063 aluminum tube
Cutting: circular saw to length (1–6 m standard); CNC for close-tolerance ends and holes. Drawn tube holds tighter bored tolerances than extruded.
Welding: 6063 T6 welds well. Use 4043 filler for the closest anodized colour match, or 5356 where the joint needs more strength. The heat-affected zone relaxes toward T4 strength, so design welded structures with that in mind or plan a post-weld re-age.
Forming: T6 has less bend allowance than T5 or O. For tight radii, form in T5/O and age, or order T5.
Surface: anodize clear or coloured, or powder-coat; 6063 takes a uniform anodized film, which is why it leads in architectural work.
Galvanic care: isolate the tube from steel or copper in wet service to avoid galvanic corrosion.

Is 6063 T6 stronger than 6063 T5?
Yes. T6 is solution heat treated and aged, giving about 241 MPa UTS and 214 MPa yield for 6063, against 186 MPa and 145 MPa for T5 (minimum per ASTM B210, confirmed per MTC). Use T6 where the member carries load; T5 suits lightly stressed or decorative parts.
Which standard covers 6063 T6 tube?
